1000 Books Before Kindergarten

The North Baltimore Public Library & the 1000 Books Foundation invite you to participate in this free program which encourages you to read 1000 books with your child before he or she starts kindergarten.

The concept is simple, the rewards are priceless. Read a book (any book) to your newborn, infant, toddler and/or preschooler.  The goal is to read 1,000 books (yes, you can repeat books) before your child starts kindergarten. Does it sound hard? Not really if you think about it. If you read just 1 book a night, you will have read about 365 books in a year. That is 730 books in 2 years and 1095 books in 3 years. Even if your child is approaching Kindergarten, you can begin the program and see where you end up. Each and every book read is a bonding experience for you and your child. Reading together is fun and will create life-long memories.

Keep track of the books on the enclosed Reading Log or download the official app at google play or itunes or use the tracking method you find easiest. Remember to record books shared by grandparents, teachers, and siblings, too. Read as a family and count each book for each preschooler.

When you reach 100, 200, 300, etc. bring your log to the NB Library. Milestones call for a celebration! Your child will receive a reading reward and have their picture taken to add to our gallery! Each milestone will bring a new reward!

If you have any questions, see Mrs. Morgan or Mrs. Becky in the children’s room.

Happy Reading!

Congratulations to our latest 1000 Book Graduates!!
